CERTIFICATION PROGRAM FOR OILHEAT TECHNICIANS
The certification programs are based on two training publications:
NEW TECHNICIAN (less than 3 years of experience)
In order to qualify for the national Silver Certification, all students must pass a series of tests or final examinations given at the end of each training course. Students must have an overall passing grade of 78% in the Basic Oil Heat Technician Course, which is based on the NORA Oil Heat Technician's Manual, to receive a Bronze apprentice certification. They must also attend and receive a passing grade at both the PPMCSA-sponsored Codes & Standards for the Installation of Oilfired Equipment Seminar and the PPMCSA-sponsored Combustion Technology - Past, Present and Future Seminar. Students who complete each course will receive a Certificate of Training for that particular program. Upon completion of the workshops designed as required courses of instruction for certification, and after serving a total of 3 years as an oil burner service technician, the student will receive his national Silver Certification.
EXPERIENCED TECHNICIAN (more than 3 years of experience)
To qualify for national Silver Certification, a technician must obtain an overall passing grade of 78% in the Basic Oil Heat Certification Test, which is based on the NORA Oil Heat Technician's Manual, and attend and receive a passing grade at both the PPMCSA-sponsored Codes & Standards for the Installation of Oilfired Equipment Seminar and the PPMCSA-sponsored Combustion Technology - Past, Present and Future Seminar.
